Flavorings & Aging

After the curing process is complete, the tobacco is placed in large wooden barrels where other flavorings and sweeteners are added to the tobacco. The barrels are then sealed and the tobacco is allowed to age for up to two years depending on the brand. This aging step allows a few things to happen. First, the tobacco and other flavorings begin to marry, creating the final flavor of the Dip. Also, it allows the flavors to mellow and the tobacco to ferment. The aging step is the most important step in creating American smokeless tobacco and is prevalent in both Dip and Chew.
